15 August 1809

Sir

I came here with the intention of settling the last quarter accounts & was this morning about them when I received an express from Barbuda acquainting me that a Brig from Glasgow(?) was on shore on the North side of the Island with having a vessel in St John’s harbour.  Have come immediately on board & while the men are getting underway. I write these few lines to inform you of it, the Brig has a very valuable cargo on board. The weather on Barbuda has been pretty favourable lately. I have the honor
                                     to be Sir
                                           your most Obedt. Servt.
